NEW ORLEANS — On a day of sorrow for Dolly Parton’s fans around the world, members of one New Orleans krewe are remembering the country music icon by continuing a mission she cared for deeply: getting books into the hands of children.
The Krewe of Dolly is known for its rhinestones, colorful costumes and tributes to Parton’s signature style during Carnival season. But the krewe’s mission goes beyond the parade.
Founded in 2020, the organization works with Parton’s Imagination Library to provide books to children in New Orleans.
“She truly believed that knowledge will set you free,” said Kari Ayala, president of the Krewe of Dolly.
Parton’s Imagination Library provides free books to children from birth through age 5. The program has distributed millions of books to children around the world.
